Hi, I’m Brad, a trauma-informed therapist, Mental Health Accredited Social Worker, and the founder of Phoenix Connection Therapy based in Alderley on Brisbane’s northside.
I created Phoenix Connection Therapy to provide a safe, supportive, and genuinely human space where people can feel heard, understood, and supported through life’s challenges without judgement. I understand that seeking support can feel vulnerable and at times overwhelming, which is why I believe therapy should feel grounded in compassion, emotional safety, authenticity, and genuine connection.
With over a decade of experience working across mental health, child protection, family support, community services, and private practice, I have supported individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions. Alongside my professional experience, I also bring a personal lived experience of healing from trauma, which has deeply shaped both my understanding of emotional pain and the way I work therapeutically with clients.
My approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and tailored to the individual. I believe healing happens through safe connection and that every person has the capacity to reconnect with themselves, their relationships, and their own inner strength when provided with the right support and environment to do so.
Areas I Commonly Support
Through Phoenix Connection Therapy, I support adults, couples, emergency responders, and individuals navigating a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges. I also offer Clinical Supervision & Reflective Practice for helping professionals seeking a reflective and supportive space for professional development and growth. I understand that no two people experience life, relationships, work, or healing in the same way, which is why my approach is always tailored to the individual and their unique experiences.
Some of the areas I commonly support include:
- Trauma and complex trauma
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Emotional overwhelm and burnout
- Relationship challenges and couples therapy
- Attachment wounds and relational trauma
- Grief and loss
- Nervous system dysregulation
- Self-worth and identity struggles
- Life transitions and personal growth
- Emergency responder support
- LGBTQIA+ support
- Neurodivergence support
- Men’s mental health
- Emotional regulation and connection difficulties
- Burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue within helping professions
- Professional supervision and reflective practice for social workers, counsellors, psychotherapists, youth workers, and helping professionals
Alongside therapeutic support for individuals and couples, I also provide Clinical Supervision and Reflective Practice for helping professionals seeking a supportive and collaborative space for professional growth, reflective exploration, ethical reflection, and sustainable practice within emotionally demanding roles.
Whether you are navigating a specific challenge, feeling disconnected within yourself or your relationships, seeking support for the impact of frontline work, or looking for professional supervision to support your development and wellbeing, I aim to provide a safe and supportive space where growth, healing, reflection, and meaningful change can unfold at your own pace.
Therapeutic Approaches
My therapeutic approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and grounded in understanding the connection between the mind, body, nervous system, relationships, and lived experiences. I recognise that every person’s healing journey is different, which is why I integrate a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to the individual and their unique needs.
Some of the therapeutic modalities I work with include:
- EMDR Therapy
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Somatic Psychotherapy
- Attachment-Based Therapy
- Trauma-Informed Therapy
At the heart of my work is the belief that healing happens through safe and authentic connection. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, I work collaboratively with clients to create therapy that feels supportive, personalised, and aligned with their individual therapeutic goals and experiences.
My Approach To Therapy
I believe therapy should feel safe, supportive, and grounded in genuine human connection. Reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, especially when navigating trauma, emotional pain, relationship challenges, or periods of overwhelm, which is why creating emotional safety and trust is at the centre of the way I work with clients.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and client-led. I do not believe people need to be “fixed.” Instead, I see therapy as a space where individuals can begin understanding themselves more deeply, reconnecting with their emotions, and exploring the experiences and patterns that may be impacting their wellbeing, relationships, and sense of self.
I work alongside clients at a pace that feels safe and supportive for them, recognising that healing is not linear and that every person’s journey is unique. Through warmth, authenticity, trauma-informed care, and genuine connection, my goal is to help create a space where clients feel heard, understood, empowered, and supported throughout their healing journey.
Why I Created Phoenix Connection Therapy
Phoenix Connection Therapy was created from a deep belief that healing happens through safe connection, compassion, authenticity, and feeling genuinely seen and understood. Throughout both my professional work and personal lived experience, I came to recognise that many people seeking support often felt overwhelmed by environments that were overly clinical, impersonal, or disconnected from the human experience of healing.
I wanted to create a therapeutic space that felt different. A space where people could show up exactly as they are without judgement, pressure, or the feeling that they needed to have everything figured out before reaching out for support.
The name Phoenix Connection Therapy reflects the belief that even through pain, trauma, loss, and difficult life experiences, people have the capacity to heal, grow, reconnect with themselves, and move towards meaningful change. My hope is that Phoenix Connection Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where individuals, couples, and families feel empowered to begin that journey in a way that feels compassionate, grounded, and authentic to them.
Qualifications & Professional Experience
I am a Mental Health Accredited Social Worker with over a decade of experience working across community services, mental health, frontline child protection, family support, and private therapeutic practice. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals, couples, children, families, and vulnerable communities navigating a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges.
My professional background has provided extensive experience working with trauma, attachment wounds, crisis support, emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, grief and loss, family systems, and complex mental health presentations. I have also worked closely with emergency responders, neurodivergent individuals, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals experiencing the long-term impacts of trauma and chronic stress.
Alongside ongoing professional development and specialised trauma-informed training, I remain deeply committed to continuing my learning and providing therapy that is compassionate, evidence-based, holistic, and responsive to the individual needs of each client I work with.
Zoom & Telehealth Support
I understand that life can sometimes feel busy, demanding, or unpredictable, which is why Phoenix Connection Therapy offers secure and confidential Zoom and telehealth sessions for individuals and couples seeking flexible access to support.
Online therapy provides a convenient and supportive way to access counselling and psychotherapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Whether you are balancing work, family responsibilities, travel, health concerns, shift work, or simply feel more comfortable attending therapy from home, telehealth sessions can help remove barriers to accessing ongoing support.
My Zoom and telehealth sessions offer the same compassionate, trauma-informed, and personalised approach as in-person appointments, helping clients remain connected and supported wherever they may be.
Finding The Right Therapist Matters
I understand that reaching out for support and choosing the right therapist can feel like a deeply personal and sometimes overwhelming decision. Therapy works best when you feel emotionally safe, supported, and genuinely connected with the person you are working alongside.
At Phoenix Connection Therapy, my goal is to create a compassionate, supportive, and non-judgemental environment where you feel heard, understood, and able to explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you.
That is why I offer an obligation-free 15-minute consultation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss your needs, and explore whether my approach feels supportive and aligned with what you are looking for before making a decision.
If you would like to learn more or connect, I welcome you to reach out and take the first step towards support and healing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can naturally bring up questions about the process, therapeutic approaches, and whether the therapist feels like the right fit for you. I understand how important it is to feel safe, informed, and comfortable when seeking support, which is why I have answered some of the most common questions people ask about working with Phoenix Connection Therapy.
You do not need to be in crisis to seek support. Many people begin therapy because they are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhealthy patterns, navigating relationship challenges, processing trauma, or simply wanting a deeper understanding of themselves and their experiences. Therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to explore what is going on for you and support greater emotional wellbeing, healing, and self-awareness.
A trauma-informed therapist understands the impact trauma and life experiences can have on the mind, body, nervous system, emotions, and relationships. Trauma-informed therapy focuses on creating emotional safety, trust, compassion, and support while working at a pace that feels comfortable and empowering for each individual.
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other and explore what has brought you to therapy. We may discuss your current challenges, personal history, goals for therapy, and any questions or concerns you may have about the process. There is no pressure to share everything immediately and sessions move at a pace that feels safe and supportive for you.
I use a holistic and trauma-informed approach that integrates a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities including EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Somatic Psychotherapy, and attachment-based approaches. Therapy is always tailored to the individual and their unique experiences and needs.
